Katey Sagal
An extremely gifted, versatile performer
adept at both comedy and drama, actress/singer Katey Sagal became a household
name in the late 1980s when she played the stunningly bold unassuming Peg Bundy
on the enduring Fox show Married... with Children (1987). She received two
American Comedy Award nominations and three Golden Globes over the show's long
duration. As popular and identifiable as her Peg Bundy persona was, Katey
assertively moved on after the show went off the air. She was not just starring
in other sitcoms and television movies as well as playing characters that were
complete opposites to the outrageous character that first earned her nationwide
attention. In 2008, for instance, she took on the role of Gemma Teller Morrow,
the mother of the Hell'sAngels-like California biker gang on the series Sons of
Anarchy (2008) and, in 2011, her character was awarded a Golden Globe Award for
Best Performance by an Actress in the TV Drama Series. Catherine Louise Sagal
was the daughter of Sara Zwilling, a singer and Boris Sagal, a noted television
and film director. Los Angeles native Catherine Louise Sagal began singing at
the age of five. She went on to study voice and acting at the California
Institute of the Arts. A singing waitress in her "salad" times She
began singing with the group "The Group Without a name," then caught
a break when she connected with Gene Simmons and his 1970s rock group KISS. She
also performed as a backup singer for recordings by Simmons and other famous
celebrities, including Bob Dylan (Olivia Newton-John), Etta James, and Tanya
Tucker. She was also dynamic when she performed live with Bette Midler in
Bette's wild avant-garde stage show of the late 1970s/early 1980s.
