Robin Gayle Wright was born to Gayle (Gaston) she was a national Director at Mary Kay and Freddie Wright. She was born in San Diego, California. She started her professional career as a model in the year 1980 at the age of 14, and worked both in Paris and Japan. She made the decision to become an actress after she graduated high school. She was offered a part on Santa Barbara's soap opera (1984), and was nominated for three Daytime Emmys. Dane Witherspoon was her fellow cast participant, and she got married to the actor in 1986. After refusing 14 roles, she was offered the lead role in MGM/UA’s Moll Flanders (1996). It was directed and written by Pen Densham and featured Morgan Freeman, Stockard Channing, and Morgan Freeman. Her next film was Erin Dignam's Loved (1997) together with William Hurt.
