Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16, 1937 from May 16, 1937 until August 17, 2015. Craig was an American actor and ballet dancer popular for her performances as Batgirl on the 1960s ' television series Batman and Marta as the Orion slave girl Marta as seen in Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes" for the television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School as well as W. H. Adamson High School. However, Craig didn't graduate since she was not awarded "one PE credit". After being spotted by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina and teacher, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest member of the corps de ballet. As she performed as Batgirl in the film, her training proved very beneficial. She quit the ballet company in 1957 "over an argument over casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career, but found herself being cast in film roles. Her first appearance was in an episode of the TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") as well as Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later became Batgirl's Police Commissioner James Gordon. In the following years, she was in three films - The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959)--and she also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen with Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), where she was paired alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest-starring in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. She also starred with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961), both which included Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Happened in the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also appeared in the science fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) and appeared in In Like Flint (1967) as an in-character Russian dancer who was paired with James Coburn.
